Maple Valley Records at a Glance
Washington law opens many government records, but access depends on the record and its keeper. Maple Valley holds its own council, administrative, permit, code, and contracted-police files. King County maintains land recordings, assessments, tax accounts, court files, marriage records, jail data, and archives. State offices control statewide vital products, historic digital collections, corporation filings, professional credentials, and prison records. This coverage table leads with the practical split.
| Maple Valley record | Keeper | Web access | Other channel |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deeds, liens, plats, marriages | King County Recorder and Archives | Landmark index, 1976-present; most images from August 1, 1991 | Phone, mail, counter, or Archives microfilm for 1853-1975 |
| Municipal, district, superior court | Clerk of the court holding the case | Washington Courts reference index; KC Script for many superior files | Clerk terminal, copy request, or archive retrieval |
| Property and tax | King County Assessor and Treasury | eReal Property and Parcel Viewer | Agency data or archived-card request |
| Birth, death, marriage, divorce | King County, Recorder, DOH, or Superior Court Clerk | No general modern certificate index; some historical records online | Mail, approved vendor, local registrar, clerk, or Archives |
| City permits, police, council files | Maple Valley City Clerk or responsible department | City request portal and published meeting files | City Hall or main phone fallback |
| Jail, prison, licenses, corporations | King County and Washington agencies | Separate official lookup systems | Agency records request when the lookup is incomplete |
Public does not mean every field is released. Sealed cases, juvenile and adoption material, confidential court forms, active investigative details, victim data, driver information, protected voter locations, original voter forms, and some vital products are closed or limited by separate law. An online result can also be narrower than the file available through a lawful request or courthouse terminal.
Search Maple Valley Land Records
The King County Recorder records search leads to Landmark, the main index for deeds, deeds of trust, liens, easements, leases, plats, surveys, condominiums, powers of attorney, marriage recordings, and other instruments. An instrument is a recorded document. Search a name as Last, First, try variants, and check both grantor and grantee roles. A grantor transfers an interest; a grantee receives it.
Landmark is free to search. Its index generally starts in 1976. Entries from 1976 through July 31, 1991 often provide index details without a digital image, while most images from August 1, 1991 forward can be opened. Free image downloads are marked unofficial. The cart supports uncertified copies that can be printed and certified copies mailed with the seal. Restricted document classes, including DD-214 military discharge images, are not freely displayed.
| Landmark control | Use | Format note |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Find recorded parties | Last, First; repeat variants and roles |
| Instrument number | Open a known recording | Post-1971 numbers generally encode date plus sequence |
| Book and page | Follow an older citation | Use both parts when known |
| Parcel ID | Find parcel-linked items | First ten digits; reliable retrieval from 1997 forward |
| Document type and date | Narrow a broad result set | Test names before using a tight date range |
| Legal description | Search plats, surveys, and condos | Advanced Legal supports specialized paths |
Copies are also available by phone at 206-477-6620 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., by mail with the Recorded Document Copy Request Form, or at 201 S Jackson Street, Suite 204, Seattle. The public counter runs 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; recording ends at 3:30 p.m.
King County also offers the free Recording Activity Notification System, or RANS. A subscriber can monitor a personal or business name and receive an email when a matching document is recorded. The alert does not block a filing, prove fraud, or lock title. Treat it as prompt notice to inspect the instrument and contact the Recorder or law enforcement when needed.
Maple Valley Records Beyond the Web
Insider tip: an empty image pane is not the end of a land-record search. King County Archives holds microfilmed grantor and grantee indexes from 1853 through 1975 and the recordings behind much of the pre-digital index. Parcel numbers were indexed unevenly until about 2002. For older Maple Valley land, combine full names, a year or five-year span, legal descriptions, and recording numbers.
The Archives offers appointment-based research at 1215 E Fir Street in Seattle. Records do not circulate, but staff can pull files and make reproductions for a fee. Older finding aids may name the County Auditor because King County's 1969 home-rule charter abolished that office and the Recorder took over in 1970. That label change reflects administration, not a lost record series.
Note: Search old recordings twice, once for each party role, because one side of a transfer may be the only useful name entry.
Maple Valley Property Record Limits
Landmark has no street-address field. Start with King County Parcel Viewer or eReal Property, search an address, and copy the ten-digit parcel number. Parcel Viewer also links to district and development-condition reports. eReal accepts a parcel number, property address, or condominium or apartment complex name. Its public start page does not offer a confirmed general owner-name search.
An eReal parcel report may show the taxpayer or owner, site address, mailing address, legal description, jurisdiction, property type, land and building facts, assessment values, sales, and recorded-document references. A situs address is the physical site. A mailing address is the tax-notice destination. Neither a parcel card nor a tax account proves who occupies a home, and the assessment report is not title proof. Use the recorded deed for title parties.
Jurisdiction matters here. A mailing address labeled Maple Valley or ZIP 98038 may lie outside city limits. The city incorporated in 1997, so King County may hold old permits and files for land that was unincorporated at the time. Confirm the boundary in Parcel Viewer before asking Maple Valley Community Development for permit or code material.
Washington's Address Confidentiality Program can shield the actual location of eligible participants through a substitute address. Agencies must accept that address for new government records in most cases. Enrollment does not erase older documents. For a recorded image containing protected personal identifiers, use the Recorder's formal Web Image Access Removal process; removing the web image does not alter the permanent recording.
Verify Maple Valley Court Records
Maple Valley Municipal Court handles city misdemeanors and infractions. King County District Court handles limited-jurisdiction county matters, while Superior Court keeps felony, probate, divorce, family, higher-value civil, and lower-court appeal files. The Washington Courts record finder routes searches across those systems. Name mode commonly uses last or organization name, first name, middle initial, court, case type, and date filters.
Myth: a statewide search result is not the official court record. It is discovery data. Results may show a case number, court, caption, party, filing date, type, and status, but the clerk's file may add pleadings, orders, judgments, decrees, minutes, exhibits, and audio. Use King County Superior Court records and KC Script for available documents, then ask the correct clerk for a plain or certified copy.
Adoption, juvenile, sealed, confidential name-change, protected-identifier, and some family or protection-order material will not appear in full. Older transferred files can require Archives. Federal cases use PACER or the federal clerk, not the Washington Courts index.
Maple Valley Vital Record Access
Washington's modern statewide vital system began July 1, 1907. Public Health Seattle and King County issues Washington births registered from 1907 forward and King County deaths from that point. The Department of Health supplies statewide birth, death, marriage, and divorce certificates. The Recorder holds King County marriage material, and the Superior Court Clerk holds the full divorce case or decree.
Chapter 70.58A RCW and chapter 246-491 WAC control certificate access. Certified birth and long-form death products require identity plus a qualifying relationship or authority. Anyone may order a $25 noncertified informational birth or short-form death copy, but it is watermarked as unusable for legal purposes. Historical records move to the State Archives after 100 years for births and fetal deaths, and after 25 years for deaths, marriages, and divorces, subject to actual transfer and holdings.
The Washington vital-record forms hub links the current birth, death, informational-copy, marriage, divorce, and adoption forms.
The form table helps a requester choose the right product before gathering event facts, identification, relationship proof, mailing details, and payment. Mail, authorized online or phone ordering, and local registrar service are all documented routes; use the forms hub because forms and estimates change.
Maple Valley State Record Lookups
Some useful Maple Valley records belong to state systems. The Department of Health credential search accepts a provider name or credential details and reports license type, number, status, dates, and discipline links. Department of Licensing profession portals cover other regulated fields. The Secretary of State's Corporations and Charities Filing System searches entity names and UBI numbers, returning legal name, status, dates, registered agent, governors, addresses, and filing history where supplied.
The Provider Credential Search is an official public route for checking health credentials.
The interface links a person's name to a state-issued credential, not to a private home address. Confirm status and any public discipline in the state record.
The Corporations and Charities Filing System is the durable online path for business and charity filings.
CCFS entries identify filed entity roles and service addresses. A registered-agent address is not proof of an owner's residence. Maple Valley endorsement records are separate city files and can be requested from the City Clerk when releasable.
Maple Valley Custody Record Channels
Current King County jail information appears in the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention Subject Lookup. It may show custody status, booking details, facility, and charge, case, or bail data when displayed. It is not a conviction history. If the lookup fails, contact the department or request an existing agency record.
The Washington DOC Incarcerated Individual Search uses a DOC number or first and last name for state prison or community-custody data. Federal custody and public sex-offender information use separate federal and WASPC systems. Registry data serves a public-safety purpose and may exclude people or details that law does not publish. Never harass, threaten, or try to apprehend anyone based on a result.
Maple Valley Public Records Custodians
The right custodian can save weeks of rerouting. City Hall handles municipal government files. The Recorder handles recorded land and marriage material. The Superior Court Clerk controls its court files, while statewide search data only points toward that official source. These are the main contact paths documented for Maple Valley searches.

Request Maple Valley Public Records
The Washington Public Records Act, chapter 42.56 RCW, lets any person request identifiable existing agency records without a state-residency requirement. The law does not require staff to answer research questions, analyze data, or create a new list. Within five business days, the agency must provide the records, acknowledge the request with a reasonable estimate, seek clarification, or deny it with reasons. Production may follow later in installments.
- Identify the keeper by jurisdiction and record type. Check city limits before sending a permit request.
- Search the official portal first. Save any case, parcel, instrument, permit, or incident number.
- Describe the department, record series, names or address, date range, and preferred electronic format. Ask for an index or retention category when the exact title is unknown.
- Retain the confirmation and answer clarification promptly. Review any exemption explanation and the scope of redactions.
- Pay an authorized deposit, installment, copy, or certification charge. Seek agency review and, if needed, judicial review under RCW 42.56.550.
Inspection and the work of locating records are generally free. Under RCW 42.56.120, an agency may use actual costs or the statutory default schedule, including common charges of 15 cents per photocopied page, 10 cents per scanned page, 5 cents per four uploaded electronic files, and 10 cents per gigabyte sent. Recorder copies, court certifications, and vital certificates follow their own fee laws. Confirm the current total with the custodian.
- Index
- A finding aid that identifies a record; it may not include the document image.
- Certified copy
- An official reproduction authenticated by the custodian, often with a seal and added fee.
- Custodian
- The agency or office that holds and responds for the requested record.
- Exemption
- A law that permits or requires an agency to withhold all or part of a record.
Lawful use. Open access does not permit stalking, harassment, threats, impersonation, or harm. Washington law can punish misuse even when the source record was public.
Common closures include sealed or destroyed court records, juvenile and adoption files, confidential name changes, active investigation details, victim information, voter signatures and protected addresses, motor-vehicle personal data, DD-214 images, and restricted vital products. A denial must cite the exemption and explain how it applies. Narrowing a broad date range or naming the exact series can often resolve delay without giving up the needed material.
